three things

What lives here are things that started separately and turned out to be the same instinct, applied differently.

Ideas is the ongoing one, short pieces on bikes, work, people, and language, added whenever something's worth saying. Geometry of Service is the long one, 78 pieces built in response to Rick Rubin's The Creative Act, transposed into the world of independent bike shops. Activities is the simplest one, where and when we’re moving on bikes or on foot, no entry fee, no podium, just a route and a time to show up.

Different formats, same origin. All of it comes from paying attention to something and deciding it was worth writing down, or worth showing up for.

The rest of this site lives inside EVERYTHING.

IDEAS

Observations from inside the work: bikes, people, language, and what connects them. Updated regularly.

Take what's useful.

GEOMETRY

A response to Rick Rubin's The Creative Act, section by section, reworked for the world of independent bike shops. Each piece takes one of his ideas and asks what it actually means on the floor of a shop.

Read in order, or open to where you are.

ACTIVITIES

The growing list of where we will be riding and running: road, gravel, and dirt across Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, and wherever else.

No entry fees, no podium, just a route and a time to show up.
